Special Programs
The Special Education Department is committed to providing a free and appropriate education to students ages three through twenty-one who live within the Elizabethtown City School boundaries. We support the mission of the Elizabethtown Independent School District and follow state and federal regulations pertaining to the identification, evaluation, placement and services offered to students with disabilities.
Elizabethtown Independent Schools also offers 504 plans for students ages three through twenty-one who have a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits some major life activity in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Section 504 is a non-discrimination statue meant to protect the right of access and opportunity to individuals with disabilities.
Valley View Behavioral Health Program is a program that is offered to students in grades K-12 who have pervasive mental/behavioral health needs. The district partners with Communicare to offer a unique blend of academic and therapeutic services to meet the students’ individual needs while working with their family to provide support and education regarding mental and behavioral health.
Our English Learners Program is provides services to students who are limited English proficient, including immigrant children and youth. Students identified through WIDA Access Placement Test will be provided a Program Service Plan and take the ACCESS test annually until they exit the LEP program.
