Panther Academy is proud to announce its recognition as a recipient of the prestigious Purple Star Award, a state-sponsored honor recognizing schools that show a deep commitment to supporting military-connected students. Developed by the Ohio Department of Education in 2018, the Purple Star Program focuses on strengthening the resilience of military-connected youth and ensuring that their social, emotional, and academic needs are met.
Remember that show Kids Say the Darndest Things? I used to wonder if it was real or just scripted for laughs. Now, after spending a few weeks in our Elizabethtown Independent Schools classrooms and hallways, I can tell you—it’s absolutely real.
It’s been an incredible, eye-opening few weeks. Young students see an unfamiliar face—me—with a camera and a press badge and immediately have questions. Sometimes bold, sometimes hilariously blunt. A few favorites:

Elizabethtown High School celebrated one of the proudest chapters in its rich athletic history Saturday by honoring the 1975 Panther baseball team—on the 50th anniversary of its KHSAA state championship victory.
Led by the late Ron Myers, a coach synonymous with baseball excellence in Elizabethtown, the 1975 squad defeated Somerset 9-2 at Morehead State University to claim the program’s second state title. That memorable team finished with a 30-7 record and helped cement the school’s status as a baseball powerhouse in Kentucky.
